The Phantom Catz have joined the SoCal Makers Covid-19 Response effort to supply local medical and other first responders with much needed personal protection equipment (PPE) during this unprecedented pandemic. Working from safe spaces at home, the team has been 3D printing PPE face shield frames and "ear saver" mask tensioning straps. To date the team has delivered over 200 pieces and are expected to be able to produce well over 1000 pieces of PPE over the next few weeks.
Virtual STEM Camp
The Phantom Catz continued spreading STEM to their community in this unprecedented circumstances. In late April, the FRC Robotics team held hour long virtual STEM Camps for second to fifth graders from Hickory Tree School, teaching them the principles of Science and Engineering. The students loved this fun activity, allowing them to express their creativity and problem solving.
In our first competition of Infinite Recharge, the Phantom Catz took home the spirit award coupled with Dean's list finalist award as well as the Woodie Flowers award. More than 70 members attended showing Phantom Catz's spirit!
Peninsula Stem Camp
The Phantom Catz have successfully run their annual Peninsula STEM camp for 5th graders from local elementary schools. Through the projects, the student mentors taught the students how to approach them in a creative way and how to process their thoughts on a complicated project. Thanks to the students and the Phantom Catz members, the annual Peninsula STEM camp was a huge success.
During the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Open House the Phantom Catz opened the room to parents and incoming high school students to learn more about our team and FRC.
The Phantom Catz participated in the annual Palos Verdes Peninsula Christmas Parade, performing robots. All the members from Phantom Catz planned, designed, and successfully performed, winning first place from the parade. The participation of the Phantom Catz will spread out the importance of STEM into our community!
