All District Stem Development Courses
The Phantom Catz places focus on providing everyone who’s interested in STEM a chance to participate and learn more about engineering. Thus, in 2022 we started holding STEM camps at our school open to elementary students from elementary & middle schools in the district. Our team members excitedly volunteered their time to mentor the 18 students and foster a love for creative learning. Our first camp featured a hands-on approach to learn about the concept of potential and kinetic energy through building a cushion structure of their own design for an egg drop. This year in 2023, we mentored 35 students, the students got to explore the engineering process by making a balloon car. We are planning to hold another STEM Development Course in early 2024.
Holiday Parade
The Phantom Catz participated in the annual Palos Verdes Peninsula Holiday Parade, with our fantastic, performing robots. All the members from Phantom Catz planned, designed, and successfully perform for the event, winning first place from the parade. The participation of the Phantom Catz will spread the importance of our team and Peninsula Highschool in our community.
Long Beach Rescue Mission Drive
During the winter of 2019, we collected around 100 items for the Covenant House as a team, which directly supports the homeless individuals of our area. As proud members of our community, we consider helping the disadvantaged a priority and privilege for each and every member. Later on, in 2022 we held a donation drive for the Long Beach Rescue Mission, supporting the homeless of our area. Our entire team gathered to donate various materials in need that were requested, including clothes, school supplies, and bookmarks. In total, we were proud to give over 1000 items. Most recently, in November of 2022, The Phantom Catz’ members from all ranges of Subteams focused on the goal of collecting school supplies to donate to a school in Uganda. The school had informed us of their lack of basic items crucial to the classroom, including pencils, erasers, markers, and other kinds of supplies, and together around 80 items were sent to Uganda. In addition to the necessities, STEM kits were donated to further their education and provide opportunities for the disadvantaged children to gain education not previously available. |
